History
M-fold Biotech was founded in March 2007 by Hans Kiefer as a
successor company of m-phasys GmbH, a six year biotechnology company.
The M-FOLD™ technology for the production of purified, functional
membrane proteins is the basis of M-fold Biotech's activities.
In October 2007, M-fold Biotech was aquired by Cambridge Isotope
Laboratories, Inc. (CIL), an Andover, MA USA based specialty
chemical manufacturer. CIL is the premier supplier of stable
isotopes for research applications in proteomics, genomics,
molecular biology, metabolic research, clinical and diagnostic
research and ultra trace environmental analysis. The key managers
and employees of M-fold are continuing with the Company.
Technology
M-fold Biotech's proprietary platform, M-FOLD™, is a generic
method for the production of purified membrane proteins. Currently,
the success rate in producing functional receptors is 75% as estimated
from a large-scale study with 150 GPCRs. The protein may be used for
various drug discovery applications such as the generation of monoclonal
antibodies, structural analysis by X-ray crystallography and NMR,
or the develoment of in-vitro assay for screening.
Business areas
M-fold Biotech provides services to the pharma and biotech industry
in different areas. According to the specific application, purified
protein are provided either detergent-solubilized, liposome-reconstituted
or immobilized on solid phases. In addition, M-fold Biotech offers
downstream processing development for all kinds of proteins.

The team of M-fold Biotech is composed of experienced researchers
and technicians who previously worked at m-phasys for many years.
Individuals hold excellent track records in membrane protein biochemistry,
cell biology and structural biology. R&D is headed by M-fold Biotech's
